The 7th Battalion the Mechanized Infantry Regiment was raised as 37 DOGRAS by Lt. Col. V. Rivas on 30th May, 1887 at Sialkot. The Battalion saw action within three years of raising as part of Black Mountain Expeditionary Force in March 1891.

Maharaja Chhatrasal was born in c. 1649 A.D. in the forest of Maur hill near Kakar Kachnaye village to Champatrai Bundela and his wife, Lal Kunwar. Having lost his ancestral estate to Maheba, Champatrai was living a rebel’s nomadic life, as a result of his conflict with Shahjahan. Chhatrasal was therefore deprived of formal education.

Kailas Nath Katju’s father Pandit Tribhuwan Nath belonged to a middle class Kashmiri Brahmin family settled in Jaora, a petty state in Malwa. It was here that Kailas Nath was born on 17th June 1887 and brought up till March 1900, when he was sent away to Lahore to be educated under the fostering care of his maternal grand parents.
Dr. Rajah Sir Muthiah Chettiar was born on 5th August 1905, son of Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar a distinguished member of the Nattukkottai Nagarathar community. He studied mostly in Madras, graduating from the Presidency College in 1922.
